First published in 1873, The Gilded Age is both a biting satire and a revealing portrait of post-Civil War America-an age of corruption when crooked land speculators, ruthless bankers, and dishonest politicians voraciously took advantage of the nation's peacetime optimism. With his characteristic wit and perception, Mark Twain and his collaborator, Charles Dudley Warner, attack the greed, lust, and naivete of their own time in a work which endures as a valuable social document and one of America's most important satirical novels.

“The Gilded Age” by Mark TwainTwain is, of course, the greatest writer in History, so, while anyone can describe his work, no sane person could presume to critique it.
This was written later in his career when he himself and his friends (notably President Grant) had their own disappointing and impoverishing experiences chasing financial butterflies. Besides Twain and Grant, the reader can readily identify at least four of the characters whom Hollywood kidnapped nearly a half-century later to use in “Gone with the Wind”. And it can hardly be coincidence that the final realizations Twain’s characters had to face are echoes of the same new Realities people of the southern U.S. faced in the summer of 1865.
Showcased here is Twain’s incredible ability to judge and portray human character, his incomparable wit, his wonderful grace with the language, his expertise with dialog, and the acuity of his perception of the readers’ response.
In short, this is Literature.

The Gilded Age edition by Mark Twain Charles Dudley Warner Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Very funny mark twain novel liked it better then Huck Finn
While I really enjoy Mark Twain, this version is full of typographical errors as if it was never truly edited. This makes it distracting to read and a bit frustrating.
